This rubber seal prevents gear oil from leaking through the shift fork.
When removing the tapered pin, care must be taken not to bend the shift fork or damage the bore. If necessary, the pin must be drilled out.
To simplify future revisions, a set screw can be inserted and secured with threadlocker. This greatly simplifies the revision process and protects both the shift fork and the bore. A worn-out bore may not be sealed even with a new O-ring. If this is the case, a bushing can be installed.
